What’s the most enjoyable part of your job?
Working with a lot of people from lots of backgrounds. Being able to inspire others about science and science education. Watching people change as they learn to be science teaching professionals.
What practical do you enjoy doing most?
I’ve got to say Moss Safari as it’s what I do mostly now. However, anything that requires a microscope.
If you had one bit of advice for someone looking to get into your professions what would it be?
Get some experience first. Spend a few days in a science department. See what teachers do. If you can see yourself doing it, it’s the job for you.
Who’s your favourite scientist and why?
Leonardo da Vinci.
His observations, imagination and life fascinate me.
He had a habit of starting lots of things and not finishing them, but what he did invent and create was incredible.
I like his fusion of art and science to understand the world.
What is something only a few people know about you?
I love a nap!
What is it about your industry that inspires you?
I love teaching. I love learning. This job gives me the joy of both.
