Behind the Prep Room Door at Woolmer Hill School

In this series, we unlock the door to the science department’s concealed treasure, as science technicians across the UK and Ireland reveal their preparations, setup, and valuable techniques for an efficient prep room.
Our LaBLiFe ambassador Denise Ralph opens the prep room door at her secondary school, Woolmer Hill School in Surrey!

How would you describe your prep room set-up and layout?

I have three small prep rooms and the layouts are workable. I also have one office which is separate.

What is your favourite part of your prep room?

My favourite part of my prep rooms are the Gratnell trays labelled with equipment and RPA all in the racking.

What is needing some TLC or improvement in your prep room?

It would be nice to have one large prep room with every thing in including the work station/s rather than three.

With that in mind, what would you add to your prep room if you had an unlimited budget?

New or more racking!

What is your top tip, advice, or essential must-have for someone setting up or inheriting a prep room?

When I came to the school I am in now, I overhauled every thing: it was such a mess, I went through all equipment and put into trays and labelled so that I knew what was in them, any thing that did not work or not used was disposed of.

Inventory of everything that is in your prep room.

Organisation is key 👍

Thanks Denise, for sharing with us your amazing prep room, tips and set up!
